I love glass sculptures and stained glass art. When I walked into an old church, the first thing I look for is the stained glass. At the right hour, the art comes alive.

Hard candy has the light catching properties of glass, so when I was given free hand on a diving cake, I jumped at the chance of playing with it. It is hard to capture being underwater with a cake, as the sea creatures are usually on ‘top’ of the cake, whereas they should be on the sea floor. I was inspired by a cake I saw online that had the scuba diver under the water in this manner (though my cake is a pale shadow of it).

This birthday cake was for a diving instructor. Since glass functions best with light streaming through, I set it up with a spotlight above. Doesn’t it look like the ripples of water?
